¶ Smoke Escaping During Processing: Exhaust Optimization - X Series
This guide explains how to resolve smoke leakage issues during laser processing by optimizing your machine’s exhaust and airflow system. If smoke is escaping from the enclosure instead of being properly vented, it indicates an imbalance in airflow. The following methods will help you achieve efficient smoke extraction and maintain a cleaner working environment.
Smoke and dust are leaking out of the machine during operation instead of being vented properly. This results in poor air quality and high readings on the PM2.5 Detector.
Positive Pressure: If the internal pressure is higher than the external environment but the exhaust fan is weak, smoke will be forced out of every gap and seal in the chassis.
Negative Pressure: If the exhaust fan is strong but there is no fresh air intake (Air Assist), the vacuum effect will actually reduce the overall displacement efficiency, causing smoke to swirl and eventually leak.
For consistent, high-volume production, the standard small air pump may not be sufficient.
We suggest using a high-power Air Compressor to maintain stable intake pressure. This helps "push" the smoke toward the back of the machine where the exhaust intake is located.
Based on our lab standards, we recommend that your exhaust fan meets the following these specifications:
(Note: Hydra Series machines require even higher specs)
Airflow:
366m3/h
Static Pressure:
578Pa
Speed:
3800RPM
Installation Position Matters:
Flexible Hoses: If using flexible ducting, install the fan closest to the machine. This creates immediate suction at the source to pull smoke out before it can dissipate.
Rigid Piping: If using hard/rigid pipes, you can install the fan at the end of the duct (farthest from the machine) to pull the smoke through the system more effectively.
Important Reminder:
If these steps do not resolve the issue, please submit a support ticket on ZOHO: https://zohodesk.1laser.com/portal/en/newticket. A technician will then be able to conduct a more in-depth diagnosis and resolve your problem.
