During engraving or cutting, intermittent sparks or small flames may appear around the laser head or nozzle. Brown or burnt residue may also be found around the nozzle or lens area.
Possible causes include:
Dust, smoke, or residue has accumulated around the laser head.
The nozzle or lens area is contaminated.
The air assist is not working properly.
The material being processed produces excessive smoke or residue.
The focus or material position is incorrect.
Stop the machine and allow the laser head to cool before inspection.
Check the nozzle and the area around the laser head for dust, smoke residue, or other contamination.
Clean the affected area according to the recommended laser head and lens cleaning procedure.
Check that the air assist is working properly and that the air hose is securely connected.
Check the material position and make sure the material is at the correct focus height.
Run a low-power test after cleaning to confirm whether the sparks or flames have disappeared.
If sparks or flames continue to occur after cleaning and checking the air assist, stop using the machine and contact technical support for further inspection.
Note: Do not continue engraving when abnormal flames or sparks are present. Excessive residue around the laser head can affect engraving quality and may contaminate or damage optical components.
